International Women’s Day 2023

To celebrate International Women’s Day, we spoke to some of the many women who work at the centre or in partnership with Glasgow Fort about their achievements and what this year’s theme of #Embraceequity means to them.

Tell us a bit about you…

I have been part of Glasgow Fort Centre team for 18 years, currently the Retail Services Manager.

Who inspires you the most?

My children inspire me the most, with their eagerness to learn and believing anything is possible.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

My role is so varied, one day I can be analysing sales and footfall and the next I can be taking part in a community event at a local school.  I love how Glasgow Fort is connected with the local community and has always had great partnerships with groups and school.  I feel privileged to be able to contribute.

What’s your biggest achievement in the workplace?

Being part of a great team!  Having worked my way up to my current role from my first role, 18 years ago, as Receptionist / PA.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity, what does this mean to you?

To understand the needs of each individual, to be compassionate, to listen and to learn.

Tell us a bit about you…

I’ve worked in marketing for over 15 years and have just recently relocated back to Scotland to be able to enjoy more time by the coast with my family.

Who inspires you the most?

I don’t take inspiration from one person and look for inspiration from a variety of different people. For me this can be friends and family or strong female leaders, I have recently read Michelle Obama’s autobiography and I also have a lot of respect for Joelie Brearley and Anna Whitehouse for the work they do in campaigning for women and the need for a better childcare infrastructure in the UK to support equality in the workplace.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I love how varied every day is, marketing is a very social role as you interact with so many different teams.

What’s your biggest achievement in the workplace?

I would say my biggest career achievement has been to travel and to work with so many people from different backgrounds. I’ve learned so much from having the opportunity to work with teams who are based all over the world from USA to Europe and the Middle East.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity, what does this mean to you?

I think it is about everyone playing their part to support equality, taking the time to learn and understand what you can do as an individual to make a difference.

Linda, Project Manager YOMO (Glasgow Fort’s Charity Partner)

Tell us a bit about you…

I’m Linda, Project Manager of YoMo. Young Movers is a Youth Charity Supporting Young People to reach their potential in life.  I love what I do as it isn’t your usually job and has lots of challenges. I left school without any qualifications but gained my degree after a diagnosis of dyslexia in my late 30’s around this time I took the opportunity to develop YoMo as a youth charity.

Who inspires you the most?

Women that project strength such as Judy Murray, Emma Thomson, Nicola Sturgeon, Adele and any that promote fairness and equality.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Feedback from young people, seeing them reach their goals and celebrating their personal achievements.

What’s your biggest achievement in the workplace?

There is too many to choose from but sustaining and developing the charity to continue to offer support to young people in this hugely difficult climate.

This year’s International Women’s Day theme is #EmbraceEquity, what does this mean to you?

For me to embrace and promote the conversation that we don’t all have the same starting point in life is so important.
