Environmental Operative

The main requirement of this exciting role is to work in a team of Environmental Operatives throughout the Glasgow Fort shopping centre to ensure the environment our customers visit is a clean, tidy & safe experience.

The role involves working outdoors for the majority of the time & tasks may include but not limited to, gardening work, using power tools & hand tools, heavy lifting, litter picking etc.

Qualities required for this are:

-Physical strength & fitness

-Ability to carry out tasks which involve physical effort of bending, stretching, heavy lifting, sweeping, digging & gritting

Personal qualities we are looking for are:

-An approachable, calm, responsible manner & possess a "can do" attitude

-Ability to prioritise own work load, use own initiative & identify service needs/work/loads

-Must be a team player with a flexible approach to covering shifts when required and sometimes at very short notice.

Reporting to the Environmental Manager our Environmental Operatives will ensure exemplary standards of cleanliness and customer services are provided to clients and visitors to Glasgow Fort shopping centre.

What will you be doing?

Key duties will include using a variety of cleaning equipment; scrubber dryers, rotary scrubbers, pressure washers, balers, compactors and vacuum cleaning machines to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness at Glasgow Fort.

In addition, the Environmental Operatives will ensure that all waste is dealt with appropriately and all bins are emptied and cleaned in line with set procedures. Environmental Operatives will also be required to ensure that sanitary areas are maintained to the highest standard and supplies are replenished as required.

What experience will you need to have?

Successful candidates will be professional in their approach to the delivery of a customer focused Environmental role, demonstrating professional and courteous behaviour in the execution of their cleaning duties. It is expected that the successful candidates will also comply with all health and safety procedures at all times.

To be successful in this role previous cleaning experience in desirable although not essential. Previous experience in using a variety of cleaning equipment is an advantage although training will be provided to all operatives. Overall, we are seeking candidates, who have good communication skills and a customer friendly and focused approach in a supportive team environment.

    Glasgow Fort is located adjacent to Junction 10 of the M8, 5 miles to the east of Glasgow City Centre (35 miles west of Edinburgh). Satnav G34 9DL. Parking is free and we have over 2,500 parking spaces.

     

  • Train

    There are trains to Easterhouse rail station from Glasgow Queen Street every twenty minutes. To check train times, visit the National Rail website

     

  • Bus

    Buses run to and from Glasgow Fort frequently. Click here to view the bus services and routes. 

    A Dunns bus service also runs from Cumbernauld to Glasgow Fort every Saturday. You can find the timetable on their Facebook page

     

Facilities

There are baby changing facilities within the public toilet area, Mamas & Papas and also at Boots.

We have 2,500 parking spaces - all of which are absolutely FREE.

We are proud that our car park has been issued the Park Mark, an award given by the Police to car parks that have achieved the standards of the Safer Parking Scheme, designed to reduce crime in car parks.

We also have bicycle racks located near M&S, VUE Cinema, and beside the public toilets near Zara and The Body Shop. 

The cash machines at Glasgow Fort can be found beside Fort News, at the side of Three Store, at M&S and within Poundland.

There are photo booths next to both Barrhead Travel and Frankie & Benny's.

The public toilets at Glasgow Fort are found between The Body Shop and Zara.
