Style Watch @ Glasgow Fort!

Coatbridge student crowned stylish shopper by fashion expert

Amy Docherty

Despite rainy days and gloomy forecasts, it is good to see the weather isn’t putting a dampener on shopper’s wardrobes. And to prove that Glasgow is still top in the style stakes, Glasgow Fort fashion expert Tommy McEwan braced the weather one rainy afternoon last week to launch ‘style watch’, which saw him hit the shopping park to pick out stylish Scots and find out about their shopping habits.

One of the sassy shoppers that caught his eye was Amy Docherty from Coatbridge. The 17 year old who is going onto art school in September, stood out from the crowds with her quirky, bohemian style look.

Styling herself on Kate Moss who is her style icon, Amy said she likes dressing up.

“I love hitting the shops as I like to see what’s just arrived and how I can create my own look. Going on to be an art student, being creative is what I’m about and fashion is great as you get to experiment with lots of different looks, even if it’s just by using different accessories.”

Tommy McEwan, says:

“This look really captures the London rock chic look, Amy has used the on trend ditzy print in a colour that compliments her great porcelain complexion. She has also used the most important accessory of the season - the belt - to cinch in the waist.

This summer everyone from Kate Moss to Sienna Miller have been wearing the Grecian sandal when strutting their stuff at the summer festivals. And being a student Amy has managed to get the key look without breaking the budget by being a savvy shopper.

Amy won £25 for her style efforts and over the next few weeks, Tommy will be continuing his style watch at Glasgow Fort.

Carol Bruce

Cumbernauld woman crowned stylish shopper by fashion expert

His first sassy shopper that caught his eye was Carol Bruce from Cumbernauld. The 48 year old mother of two who lives in high heels, stood out from the crowds with her beige dress, stilettos and chunky wooden necklace.

Styling herself on Liz Hurley who is her style icon, Carol said she loves a bargain.

“I really like going round the shops seeing what I can snap up. I like classic pieces that I can dress up or down with accessories and I like nothing better than high heels – in fact the higher the better.

I never through I’d be classed as a stylish shopper, but I suppose it’s important that a woman dresses well for her age and in clothes that flatter.”

Tommy McEwan, says:

“Carol is a gorgeous looking woman who has managed to get a great stylish look using clothes that suit without trying too hard to follow a trend. She’s gone for a classic look using a shirt dress style coat cinched in at the waist to show off her great figure, and the turned up collar is bang on trend. By adding eye catching ethnic beads to break up the beige colouring and teamed with killer heels, she really knows what suits her.

Believe it or not this total outfit came in at less than £30 as Carol is a bit of a bargain hunter. It just goes to show you don’t need to spend a fortune in looking good.”

Carol won £25 for her style efforts and over the next few weeks, Tommy will be continuing his style watch at Glasgow Fort.

Moodiesburn student crowned stylish shopper by fashion expert

Dawn Adamson

One of the sassy shoppers that caught his eye was Dawn Adamson from Moodiesburn. The 19 year old psychology student who studies at the University of the West of Scotland, stood out from the crowds with her oversized bag, knee high boots and scarf, giving the likes of Cheryl Cole a run for her money.

Styling herself on Victoria Beckham who is her style icon, Dawn said she likes making an effort, even if it’s just to go to the shops.

“I have a part-time job and spend the majority of my wages on clothes, especially if I’m going on a night out where I practically buy an entire outfit. I think it’s important to look good no matter where you go and a spot of retail therapy really lifts the spirits.

I have a weakness for handbags and shoes, and the scarf that I have on – well, I’ve got it in three other colours as it was only £5! It goes to show that high street clothes and designer accessories work really together.

I was delighted when Tommy picked me as a stylish shopper.”

Tommy McEwan, says:

“This gorgeous little vamp is already ahead of the game by wearing her bohemian knee high boots that turn over at top to give them a real on trend feel, which are a must-have for autumn.

Dawn wears them with a basic denim skirt and white top, but gives a real fashionista WAG feel to it with a bright coloured scarf as an energy piece, and her luxury spend is her designer bag, Dawn really knows how to mix high street with designer to get a look that she would look comfortable next to Cheryl Cole or Victoria Beckham.”

Dawn won £25 for her style efforts and over the next few weeks, Tommy will be continuing his style watch at Glasgow Fort.

Margaret Anne McGinlay

Styling herself on Catherine Zeta Jones who is her style icon, Margaret Anne said she likes getting dressed up.

“Working as a primary school teacher I tend to stick to trousers and tops, but when I’m not at work I really like experimenting with fashion as it’s fun. I love high street stores and I have an addiction for shoes, especially high heels as I think they add the finishing touches to an outfit.

In was out shopping with my mum and I credit her for my sense of fashion as I loved getting dressed up in her clothes when I was a little girl”

Tommy McEwan, says:

“Margaret has really brought a touch of glamour to the Fort with her well groomed and stylish look. She has stuck like most women with the skinny jean which are not going away anywhere soon to show off her great long legs, and by teaming with a light coloured mack gives a high summer feel. The waist is what it’s about this season and Margaret knows it as her eye catching belt with ethnic blue buckle breaks up the white coat.

The look is finished with a sexy pair of coloured high heels that really give jeans a more formal feel to them.”

Margaret won £25 for her style efforts and over the next few weeks, Tommy will be continuing his style watch at Glasgow Fort.
